STA-5/6 Driving Access on Scheduled Days Only:
The Public access gate has been changed to the south end of Blumberg Road for at least 2 more years while there is ongoing construction at the C-139 Project. (see map below)
Through a partnership with Hendry-Glades Audubon, the South Florida Water Management District will offer to the public escorted birding trips to Stormwater Treatment Area 5 (STA-5/6) located at the Blumberg Road Public Access Trailhead.
Beginning April 1st the Deer Fence Road Trailhead will be closed for approximately 2 years because of construction and trips will begin at the Blumberg Road STA 5/6 gate. We apologize for the inconvenience.
From the north
Starting on SR 80 just east of Clewiston, take Hendry County CR 835 or Evercane Road 9 ½ miles south. • Look for an old cell tower then at a westbound curve turn east onto Blumberg Road. • Travel south 9 miles on asphalt; look for a dirt road with a stop sign and an STA 5 sign. • Continue 2 more miles south on the dirt to the public access site
From the south
Take Exit 49 for Snake Road off Interstate 75 and go north 25 miles. • At Hendry CR 835, turn east and go 20 miles. • At a northbound curve, turn east onto Blumberg Road. • Travel south 9 miles on asphalt; look for a dirt road with a stop sign and an STA 5 sign. • Continue 2 more miles south on the dirt to the public access site.
Dogs are not allowed at STA 5/6 particularly due to potential stressing of nesting birds etc., that could be impacted.

Most participants finish before 1 p.m. The exceptions will be the Christmas Bird Count with teams meeting at 7 am. January 1, (2022)

Bring the completed liability release from, water, snacks, and lunch. Walkie-Talkies are suggested. The closest gas stations are located at Big Cypress Indian Reservation, Clewiston, Montura, or LaBelle.

Walking/Bicycling Visits: Friday, Saturday, Monday and most Sundays Year Round (Closed Sundays in the Fall and Spring for Duck Hunts)
Park in Public Access Parking Area at the Blumberg Road gate (Dirt Road) Port-o-lets will be available.
